This is a collection of photos I took while in New Orleans seven months after the hurricane and floods. Most are of the 9th Ward or the downtown/French Quarter area. I suggest viewing this gallery in order, as a slideshow. As in Sri Lanka, I had a difficult time taking photos of the most affected areas. Tourism in the area is simply inconsiderate. I feel it is important, however, for people to see the difference between those places which have been encouraged and aided in their recovery and those places where the community's return and rebuilding has met with structural apathy at best, outright structural resistance most often. I probably don't need to spell out the race and class of the different groups.
