I was in Batticaloa to start a project with the purpose of bringing creative art activities to kids living in Children's Homes. Two others did the same for physical activities/games. We visited several homes and worked with three. I trained 4 tutors, picked by the administrators in the homes, and shared both a philosophy of creative/choice based art (as opposed to rote or artistic skill-enhancing) as well as activities which reflect that philosophy. Each tutor got a basket of materials and will receive (from the donor fund that started the project) a stipend as well as funds for replacing materials as they are used up. The training happened at one of the children's homes. We then visited the homes again to observe and support the tutors as they ran the activities. Independently of this, I also shared this information with 8 girls at a home who will be using these activities as they visit children in tsunami communities. These photos are a mishmash of all of those experiences, the visiting, the training, the activities, and the interactions with the young people.
